The five main changes
1. Climate change integration
Organizations must assess whether climate change represents a relevant factor in the organizational analysis (Clause 4.1). Industrial companies document climate risks, service companies can document non-relevance.
2. Leadership and quality culture
Management must "actively promote and demonstrate quality culture and ethical behavior" – not just support systems. Requires visible commitment through management reviews, quality-prioritized decisions, and consistent communication.
3. Risk and opportunity separation
Clause 6.1 now clearly separates risk identification and opportunity management and requires structured approaches for both.
4. Strategic quality policy alignment
Quality policies must explicitly reflect the organizational context and strategic direction – beyond generic statements.
5. Expanded employee awareness
Training programs must address quality culture and ethical implications, not just process documentation.
Four-phase implementation plan
- Phase 1 (Now–December 2025): Gap analysis and strategy development
- Phase 2 (January–March 2026): Detailed planning for the five changes
- Phase 3 (April–August 2026): Implementation and internal audits
- Phase 4 (September 2026+): Certification with accredited bodies
Regional Peculiarities
DACH region: Auditors expect rigorous documentation. Southern Europe: Auditors emphasize leadership engagement. Turkey: Less immediate enforcement pressure; early migration creates competitive advantages in EU export markets.
Benefits of Early Adoption
Organizations certifying in 2026–2027 benefit from auditor availability, standard pricing, market positioning as forward-thinking, and systematic implementation without deadline pressure.
