If you build external platforms or subcontracted teaching into your programmes, or use them for decisions about learners, yes. ISO 21001 covers the whole educational organization, including outsourced processes; the requirements for an organization that only uses such services are lighter, but not zero.

No. State recognition, school approval or programme accreditation are legal requirements, the standard is a management system. But it covers a large part of the organizational obligations — risk management, documentation, complaints and appeals, transparency — and makes the answers auditable.

We examine your management system, not your curriculum content. Auditors ask how you identify learner needs, design and deliver your educational offerings, assess learning and who decides. You need to be able to demonstrate this, not reinvent it.

Then you have already accomplished more than half. Context, leadership, risk approach, document control and internal audits are structured identically. We add the learner-focused requirements, the admission and assessment processes and the accessibility and equity principles of ISO 21001.

No. ISO 21001 does not replace state recognition, school approval, programme accreditation or funding prerequisites — for example AZAV approval or state school supervision in Germany, or eduQua and cantonal school approval in Switzerland. Certification is voluntary; no law demands it, though individual funders may ask for it. ISO 21001 shows how your organization is run, complementing these approvals, which define what may be taught and funded.

Annex A only applies if your organization provides early childhood education; other providers follow the core requirements of the standard. What is audited is whether you implement the requirements relevant to your context and demonstrate their effectiveness.

No. We audit your management system: whether you understand your learners' needs, what risks and opportunities exist, who is responsible, and whether your processes are effective. The educational quality of individual teachers or a single course remains your responsibility.

External partners also belong in your process oversight. You assess risks and outcomes from your role as the responsible organization, and you regulate the selection, use and monitoring of external teaching resources.

This is the natural combination — both standards share the same structure and much of their content. ISO 27001 is also a sensible add-on, since learner data needs protecting. One integrated system, one combined audit, two certificates — conditions for combined certification will be published at launch, and interested organizations get them first on request.
